Through an ancient metabolic process known as "poikilohydry," mosses are able to survive drought by contracting and shriveling their leaves and then immediately opening them once rains or moisture returns. "Verdure" simulates this natural process by periodically shutting off moisture to the moss, as this is actually healthy and beneficial to the moss plants - allowing them to go completely dry for a day or two.
